There are two solar eclipses in 2005 and the second, an annular eclipse, mirrors the first, being in Libra at the New Moon on October 3, 2005, just after Mars turns retrograde in opposition to Venus. This annular eclipse is confined to the Eastern Hemisphere, crossing the Siberian Peninsula and stretching across the African continent. Europe, the Middle East, Western Asia, India and most of Africa will be under the Moon's shadow.
The eclipse path begins in the North Atlantic where the Moon's shadow meets Earth and forms a wide corridor. Rushing southeast, the antumbra quickly reaches the coast of Spain and Portugal, which lies just outside the southern limit of the central track and will witness a partial eclipse. The city of Valencia will also darken.
