I am not a Sagittarius, but I sure am skeptical too. Of astrology, that is. Because there is a mad following and because that is the first thing I do each morning with my coffee. To turn to the today’s forecast page. But when you see something 7 days a week, you tend to get it right some days every week, and we only remember those days when we get it right. This is what some people would call a confirmative bias. Because we only remember those times when we get it right and forget those forecasts that never happened.
So, the key to the wild success of astrology is confirmative bias, right? Well, partly so, because there is another factor. How many Zodiac signs are there? I guess there are 12? One sign for every month or so.
And if there are a Billion People who believes in Astrology, and I am sure the number must be more, that is about 83 Million People reading the forecast for each zodiac sign.
Even if I were to generate the forecast using a template automatically and I repeat and rinse some common facts like, “You will meet your Love interest today”, “You will be financially lucky today”, “someone will try to pick a quarrel today” “take care of health” etc etc some people amongst 83 Million will surely get it right and for those who didn’t get it right, their turn will come some other day soon.
Add to it the confirmative bias, and there you have a very successful model in Astrology.
